Reception Manager
Cherie’s grandmother always told her that since animals can’t talk, it’s up to us to serve as their voice. She took that advice to heart—Cherie has always wanted to help keep pets happy and healthy! That’s why she decided to become a veterinary professional.

Cherie is a San Diego native and first entered the animal care business as the owner and operator of a boarding kennel. Next, she worked with an animal welfare organization for a time before entering into the world of veterinary care. A friend of hers who was a client here at Fuerte Animal Hospital introduced Cherie to the clinic, and it wasn’t long before she had accepted a job. She’s been a part of the family since early 2003 and now serves as the clinic’s reception manager!

Away from the office, Cherie enjoys cooking, baking—she even attended a pastry school during her teenage years!—and spending time with her family and pets. She and her son share their home with three indoor cats: Autumn, Mara, and Luna.
Veterinary Assistant
Kris always had a passion for animals and their well-being, and even considered becoming a veterinarian in her early years. After serving in the armed forces, she decided to get back to what had always made her so happy: making sure pets were living the happiest, healthiest lives possible. Kris has been a Veterinary Assistant ever since!

Kris was born on the East Coast, grew up in the South, and moved to California upon signing up with the United States Navy. After her time in the armed forces, she studied veterinary technology through a regional occupation program, graduating as a Veterinary Assistant a short time later. Kris interned right here at Fuerte Animal Hospital, and was happy to accept a job offer after her intern requirements were completed.

Around the clinic, Kris particularly likes working one-on-one with pets and their loving owners and imparting the best knowledge to help pet parents keep their companions healthy. She’s also fond of going on house calls around town.

When she’s not at work, Kris enjoys traveling with her husband on their three-wheeled motorcycle—traversing Pike’s Peak in Colorado was one of her most memorable trips yet!—and relaxing with her own pets at home. The family has two dogs, Bear and Zena, as well as a loveable pair of cats who go by Sly Cooper and Storm.
Veterinary Assistant
When her family veterinarian saved her own dog from a serious case of kennel cough and pneumonia, Kristen was awestruck. She knew that she wanted to help others’ animal companions in the exact same way! Having loved animals since she was a little girl, it wasn’t difficult for Kristen to make up her mind: veterinary medicine was the perfect path for her.

Kristen was born and raised in Lakeside, California and joined the Fuerte Animal Hospital team in April of 2017. She continues to learn something new on a daily basis, which is one of her favorite parts of her work—no two days are ever quite the same, and she never stops learning!

When she’s not helping pets here at the clinic, Kristen can be found testing out her green thumb in her garden, spending time with her family and friends, and doting on her own pets at home. She has two cats, Charlie and Belle, as well as a pair of Australian Cattle dogs named Izzy and Patchy.
Veterinary Assistant
Renée’s stepfather was a science teacher, and his classroom was a miniature zoo full of reptiles, amphibians, and small mammals. Growing up, Renée spent many hours caring for these creatures, and the experience made a lasting impression. She knew that she would love to work hands-on with pets in whatever way she could! Now, Renée gets to do just that as a member of Fuerte Animal Hospital’s Veterinary Assistant team.

Originally from Florida, Renée first came across an opening here at Fuerte Animal Hospital online, and didn’t waste any time applying. She was happy to join the clinic team a short time later as a Veterinary Assistant! Renée especially likes working with laboratory samples, and loves to chat one-on-one with the area’s pet owners and meet their adorable animal companions.

Renée’s interests outside of work include traveling, hiking, and caring for her family and pets at home. She and her husband have nine wonderful children, and also share their lives with two cats, a dog, a bearded dragon, and several guppies.
Veterinary Assistant
Shellie is a pet owner herself. She knows firsthand just how much our animal companions give to us! For Shellie, getting to nurture the incredible bonds between pets and owners is a dream come true. She’s a Veterinary Assistant with the Fuerte Animal Hospital family.

Shellie is originally from La Mesa and first started here at the clinic as a volunteer while taking a Veterinary Assistant course. That was eight years ago—Shellie has been a member of the team ever since! She has a particular passion for dental work, and never tires of the satisfaction of taking a dirty mouth and making it clean again.

At home, Shellie shares her life with four large dogs—Kaya, Mika, Kody, and Styx—as well as five adorable cats who go by Little Bit, Salem, Binx, Star, and Raven.
