If Pets Had Thumbs Day

March 01, 2020

There are many things to love about pets, but one of the best things about them is the way they keep us laughing with their silly antics. That appreciation for Fluffy and Fido’s knacks for comedy and mischief is at the heart of a cute pet holiday that’s coming up. March 3rd is If Pets Had Thumbs Day! In this article, a Spring Valley, CA vet gives a few ‘petucated’ guesses on what some of our furry patients would do if they woke up to find they had grown opposable thumbs.

Go Fishing

While dogs and cats may not agree on everything, we suspect they would both enjoy trying their paws at fishing. Fido may attempt to use a pole, while Fluffy would probably amuse herself by plucking fish out of tanks and koi ponds.

Sample Everything

Our furry patients are very, very enthusiastic about food. (Some of them may be a bit too fond of eating, but that’s another topic.) Fido would sample everything in your fridge and cupboards, and then spend the rest of the day in a food coma. Fluffy may be a bit choosier. She’d probably order sushi, and then tear the labels off your canned goods.

Online Shopping

You’d probably be in for some headaches if your pet learned how to order things online. We suspect that dogs would be particularly interested in toys, comfy beds, treats, and gift baskets that include lots of meat and cheese. Fluffy, on the other hand, would order cat furniture, catnip, live fish, and something completely random, like an inflatable Irish pub or an accordion. Of course, your kitty would probably delete all your files and replace them with cat videos before logging off.

Adventures

Kitties tend to be homebodies, so Fluffy may not venture too far. In fact, your cat may amuse herself simply by letting herself in and out all day. As for Fido, he’d immediately take off for some adventures, stopping along the way to pick up some of his friends. Your pooch may also put his thumb to good use by hitchhiking. Of course, when your pup finally decided to come home, he’d probably find that his feline roommate locked him out.
